Guideposts for the here and now.

The here and now would be easier if actually believed everything the LORD has revealed to us in Scripture; no adding to it, no changing it, not looking at it from the standpoint of our cultural preferences and ideologies.

If He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us, and if He is good all the time, then I must accept the reality that my pain and suffering, my joy and delight are under His control and that they have a particular purpose, a specific intention.

I align with St. Agustine in believing this purpose is that we may know Him better and better; recently, while reading a sermon preached at "Old" Princenton in the 1800s, I came across this advice from the preacher,

Live near God, and keep up a lively sense of divine things in your mind. Exert every faculty and employ every talent and opportunity in promoting the glory of God and the salvation of men.

Better guide will be difficult to find.
