Not How but Why to Build a Second Brain

For almost two years, I have been trying to acquire the habits necessary to build a second brain, all this after reading the book of the same title.

I have failed in my task.

Today, I began working with Obsidian to determine whether this platform could help me organize my thoughts and ideas.

It did not work.

I can see the benefit of such apps to help people remember everything. One only has to do a quick search on YouTube about this topic, and a plethora of videos will populate the list of results. However, I can also see how these tools can be a distraction, how they can become an end in themselves when they do not promote not only the dissemination of ideas beyond ourselves but, most importantly for me, the application of those ideas for the glory of the Triune God of the Universe, the benefit of our fellow human beings, and the affirmation of the Truth in our own hearts.

Then, the questions become: What is knowledge? Education? Wisdom? And what is their purpose?

I concluded that contentment relates to the acquisition of knowledge, but it does not stop there; knowing things is not enough. I must learn how to apply that knowledge for the benefit of others and or for the generation of new knowledge. However, it must continue to develop toward wisdom to produce contentment. What is wisdom? It begins with the fear of the Lord and continues with the anticipation of future events, informed by my knowledge, experiences, circumstances, and emotions.

Then, the end result of whatever system I use for my 2ndB must support this journey from acquiring knowledge to applying wisdom with the ultimate goal of promoting His Beauty.

This must remain the "Why?" of building a second brain.
