Between the Sea and the Egyptians

13 And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

Exodus 14

It is not a comfortable place to be, but we often find ourselves under the pressure of life, confronted by the frustrations of the here & now.

What to do then? How to proceed when there is no clear way out?

Recognizing our limitations and the seriousness of our sorrows, the LORD frequently tells us through His word not to be afraid, to wait on Him so that we may see His Person and Work more clearly. In practical terms, this means not to be inactive but to intentionally and actively scrutinize our convictions under the light of the Gospel.

To erect an effective defense against the pounding of our circumstances and emotions, we must, with the help of God the Holy Spirit, resolve to believe what God says about Himself - that He is good, compassionate, generous, caring - and to act according to the Truth. During life's battles, confused by the fog of war, we will tend to focus only on the problem before us, adopting a narrow and incomplete view of reality, but when we are between the Sea and the Egyptians, we must consider everything, this life AND the approaching eternity.

What about you? How do you face difficult times?
